Hester Street Fair Takes Over Bendel’s for Fashion’s BIG Night Out!!
For one night only, on September 8th, the Lower East Side shakes up 5th Avenue. The
Hester Street Fair is taking over New York’s beloved Henri Bendel flagship in honor of
Fashion’s Night Out. Bendel’s has handed over the keys and the creators of Hester will
be taking over the entire third floor to re-imagine the space as an old world meets new
world market. Carefully curated by the trusty Hester team, over 50 independent vendors
will represent local artists, designers, chefs and craftsmen.
From beautiful handmade jewels and terrariums, estate jewelry and locally
sourced skin care, we’ve got your entire shopping night booked. And it wouldn’t be a
Hester take-over without our round up of delicious food! Join our regulars, plus a few
first timers, to discover some of the most lovingly created treats to fuel your Fashion’s
Night Out.
“When Bendel’s called to ask if we would recreate Hester at Bendel’s, I really wanted to
stay true to who we are. We are a downtown market filled with independent artists and
designers creating one-of-a-kind and incredibly unique products that you won’t find in
any store. So, to give these first time entrepreneurs an opportunity to sell in one of the most venerated fashion institutions in New York is a dream,” says Hester Street cocreator, SuChin Pak. In addition to shopping and eating, the evening will also feature a select handful of “interactive” booths showcasing designers and artists creating custom pieces for guests at the event. Shoppers can get exotic feathered hair extensions from Three Lil Byrds or custom create their own live terrarium at Casa Helecho, watch Brooklyn artist Diane Vadino cut her intricate paper designs on site and even get letter pressed cards printed on the spot…there will be 7 interactive booths throughout the floor, to really show you what “hand-made” means.
“Henri Bendel is a longtime supporter of emerging design talent, what we call The New
and The Next, through initiatives like Open See!, our renowned designer casting call.
The partnership with Hester Street Fair underscores this commitment,” remarks Chris
Fiore, President of Henri Bendel. “We are excited by the opportunity to welcome such
innovative, diverse and unique talent to Bendel’s for an event like Fashion’s Night Out.”

Better Bring Your Appetite: Matzoh Crunch Ice Cream, Anthi’s Greek Food, Jim’s Pepper Roaster and More! And Who Knew You Could Get (Temporary) Tattoos at Hester??
Listen up folks! With the amazing food vendors we have lined up this weekend, you better bring your appetite! We know it’s been a long week in the office, but the weekend is almost here, and what better way to spend your Saturday afternoon than relaxing in the shade at the Hester Street Fair with some choice treats?
Hester is proud to bring back Chozen Ice Cream just in time for the heat wave! Chozen’s all-natural kosher ice cream, made with a sense of history and a sense of humor, features flavors based on traditional Jewish treats. With varieties such as Ronnie’s Rugelach, Matzoh Crunch, Coconut Macaroon, Chocolate Gelt, you’ll have a hard time choosing your favorite! “It’s not just about throwing a blintz or rugelach in vanilla ice cream,” says Ronnie Fisher, one of the creators of Chozen. “It’s about finding the essence of the rugelach.” Who knew an “essence” could be so delicious??
This week, we’re also featuring new food vendor Anthni’s Greek Food, who will be visiting from their usual spot on the Upper West Side. Don’t venture out of the LES much? This is the perfect time to sample some of Anthni’s Greek fare – try the zucchini pie (described as the “lesser-known” version of spanikopita), or if you’re more in the mood for a sweet treat, the baklava!
Love roasted bell peppers but have no time to cook? Always wonder how to roast a red bell pepper? Well today’s your lucky day (or rather, Saturday will be) – stop by Hester Street Fair for Jim’s Pepper Roaster and a jar of peppers to get your started. With Jim’s Pepper Roaster, you can have the most delicious roasted bell peppers you’ve ever tasted after only twenty minutes!
When you’re done stuffing yourself silly, don’t forget to check out our fabulous shopping! First time vendor Tattly offers temporary tattoos for design-minded kids and kids-at-heart. Personally, we’re a fan of the rainbows of all sizes! Each sheet comes with “papa bear,” “mom bear,” and “baby bear” sizes – just imagine the fun you could have with these! Stop by Tattly’s booth, and let’s rock the tattoo world together.

Crank up your chic factor with their whimsically wearable summer dresses, or pull any ensemble together in a cinch with their vintage belts! Be sure to check out new vendor The Cameo Vintage who showcases decades of vintage fashions and designs from past eras. Expand your taste horizons with these styles that never die! And we can’t forget our old Hester staple, American Collectables, which showcases rare finds like a tabletop lass butter churn from the early 1900s, gorgeous candy-colored glass ice-cream dishes, and sheets of uncut baseball cards. As featured in TimeOut NY’s Best for Vintage!
This Saturday at Hester, we are also featuring a brands new food vendor! Sweet Spice & Honey brings you Halal Baked Goods that include breads in creative flavors such as Yami-Yami – a round, rustic loaf containing roasted beets, squash, and yam — and Seattle Swirl – a treat laced with chipotle, cocoa, and pineapple. This is bread that you won’t want to miss, so stop “loafing” around and come to the Hester Street Fair!
