Hester Street Fair is hosting a party at the finish line of Tictail and Absolut Art’s public tour on the Lower East Side. Tictail and Absolut Art have hand-selected eleven female artists from their communities to each create a unique work that reflects their qualms with women’s portrayal in art and reaction to the male gaze. Visitors to the fair will be able to track each piece around one of the city’s most creative neighborhoods while learning more about each artist through an interactive digital map. RSVP to the tour here.
As the final stop on the tour, Hester Street Fair will host a line up of vendors run by female entrepreneurs and artists in honor of the Women x Women. Come support and be inspired by local females in creative industries!
Tictail and Absolut Art have hand-selected eleven female artists from their communities to each create a unique work that reflects their qualms with women’s portrayal in art. From May 19th – June 1, the works will be exhibited in busy outdoor locations in Manhattan’s Lower East Side location where they can’t be missed. Visitors to the fair will be able to track each piece around one of the city’s most creative neighborhoods while learning more about each artist through an interactive digital map. In their first partnership, Absolut Art and Tictail, both Swedish-born, seek to directly engage the New York City community in starting a conversation around a global issue.
The diverse and talented group of artist partners, who each put forth a piece that reflects her unique understanding of the female experience, include: Miranda July, Maria Herreros, Carly Kuhn, Kristin Texeira, Andrea Wang, Carla Fuentes, Shawna X, Jeanette Getrost, Malin Gabriella Nordin, Jenny Källman, and Elise Peterson. In solidarity with women across the globe, 10% of the proceeds will also be donated to international non-profit organization, Women for Women. Since 1993, the charitable endeavour has helped more than 462,000 marginalized women in countries affected by war and conflict––they offer support, tools, and access to life-changing skills to move from crisis and poverty to stability and economic self-sufficiency. Tictail and Absolut Art are proud to stand with these women.
These art works can be found at the following unique locations: Tictail Market, Irving Farm, 92 Orchard, 93 Orchard, Hotel Chantelle, An Choi, Essex Street Market, Hester Street Fair, the REAL NY Ludlow offices, The Lower East Side Partnership, and Scarr’s Pizza. The murals will also be available for sale as individual pieces at Tictail Market, Tictail.com, and AbsolutArt.com – with 10% of the proceeds going to the Women for Women organization.
